PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a chelating material sensitive to magnetism, which is capable of capturing, removing, concentrating, and recovering metal ions simply, safely, and efficiently from industrial waste water, river water, and ground water using magnetic separation techniques, has good magnetism because of its high content of a magnetic substance, and can be produced by a safe method. SOLUTION: The chelating material sensitive to magnetism comprises a magnetic particle-containing microcapsule, wherein the coated cap of the microcapsule is produced by the interfacial polymerization process, and a polymer side chain having a chelate group arranged on the surface of the coated cap.
