In a needle roller bearing, the inner race is formed by a metal sleeve 1, adapted to be mounted on a shaft a, having a central zone 2 which constitutes the surface of the inner race and end zones 3 by which the sleeve is attached to the shaft a. The hardness of the central zone 2 may be greater than that of the end zones 3 and the zones may be connected by portions 4, Fig. 3, of intermediate hardness. The thickness of the sleeve may be reduced, as at 5, Fig. 5, between the zones 2 and 3. In a modification, the left-hand zone 3, Fig. 6, is corrugated and the right-hand zone 3 has longitudinal slots. 6. The race 2 may be convex towards the needles as shown in Fig. 10. Fig. 11 shows a sleeve 1 on which two race zones 2 and three mounting zones 3 are formed, only one race zone 2 and supporting zone 3 are formed on the sleeve shown in Fig. 4. The space between the race zone 2 and the shaft 1 may be filled with a medium, such as a plastic material, to reduce the deformation of the sleeve under load. |
