PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a system and a method for generating point designations which generate designations of assigned points as user-friendly names that are easy for users to understand the information. SOLUTION: The point designation generating system includes a positional information detector 101 for detecting the location of a user; a movement history storage section 102 for storing the positional information as a movement history; a point assignment section 103 for assigning specified points; a map data storage section 104 for storing map information; a point designation generator 105 for generating designations of the assigned points, based on the movement history; and a point designation storage section 106 for storing the point designations generated.
