PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an update method for updating an old meter reading system AA which transmits meter reading data via a communication network NW to a new meter reading system BB. SOLUTION: In updating the old meter reading system AA to the new meter reading system BB where there is no compatibility of communication between an old center device and a new terminal control unit, the new center device comprising the new meter reading system BB is provided with: a first control system for allowing communication with the new terminal controller; and a second control system which is connected to the old center device in a communicable manner and is provided with a function as an emulator of the old terminal controller. On the basis of control of the second control system, transmission data to be outputted by the new terminal controller are transmitted to the old center device as transmission data to be outputted by the old terminal controller.
