METHOD AND COMPOSITION FOR CONTROLLING TRANSLATION OF HCV PROTEIN

<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method of controlling translation of viral peptides and proteins from viral nucleic acid (especially pestivirus and HCV). Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method of controlling translation of hepatitis C virus (HCV) proteins from HCV nucleic acid includes: (a) a step for providing a non-naturally occurring first nucleic acid which first nucleic acid contains a sequence complementary to a sense strand within the 5' UT region of HCV nucleic acid, wherein the first nucleic acid is complementary to at least one of sequences selected from the group consisting of a hairpin development region, pestivirus homology box IV region, and a cutting region cutting a whole length HCV RNA to form subgenome HCV RNA which first nucleic acid further includes a cholesteryl component connected with 3' terminal; and (b) a step for contacting the HCV nucleic acid with the first nucleic acid under conditions where the first nucleic acid and HCV nucleic acid form a hybridization product, whereby translation of the HCV nucleic acid is altered.
