PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an endoscope excellently and efficiently illuminating the entire observation screen even when it is formed in a rectangular shape and obtaining an efficient and excellent illumination state even for a horizontally long observation screen like a high-vision system. SOLUTION: The observation screens 3a and 5a obtained through an observation window 6 are formed in the rectangular shape, the emitting end parts 9a of a pair of light guide fiber bundles 9 for illumination are bent to the outer part to be away from an observation optical axis 6x largely in a direction along a long side compared to a direction along the short side of the observation screens 3a and 5a and disposed respectively, and light distribution of illumination light emitted from the respective light guide fiber bundles 9 for the illumination is spread to the outer side largely in the direction along the long side compared to the direction along the short side of the observation screens 3a and 5a.
