PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fiber having high initial deodorizing performance which has excellent photocatalytic performance, and causes less deterioration of initial performance and strength after long term use, repeated washing, or the like, and to provide a method for manufacturing the fiber. SOLUTION: The deodorizing fiber containing photocatalyst particles satisfies: (a) the content of the photocatalyst particles is 0.5-4 pts.wt. based on the total weight of the fibers, (b) the single yarn fineness is 0.5-3 dtex, (c) the photocatalyst particles form projections, and ≥0.1 number of the projections are present per μm length of the fiber, and (d) the average particle diameter of the photocatalyst particles is 0.1-2 μm.
