PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance a wiping property of a recording liquid adhering to an ejection face without lowering a volatile property of the ejection face. SOLUTION: A maintenance/recovery device of liquid droplet ejection head includes a first wiping mechanism 300, a cleaning liquid applying means 411 for supplying a cleaning liquid to an ejection face 34n of a liquid droplet ejection head 34, a cleaning liquid storing means 412 for storing the cleaning liquid, and a second wiping mechanism 400 for wiping the ejection face of the liquid droplet ejection head after supplying the cleaning liquid. The maintenance/recovery device of liquid droplet ejection head further includes a reflection type sensor 500 as a recording liquid amount detecting means that makes a relationship between a wiping pressure P1 of the first wiping mechanism 300 and a wiping pressure P2 of the second wiping mechanism 400 to be P1<P2 and detects an amount of a recording liquid adhering to the ejection face 34n of the liquid droplet ejection head 34, and a recording liquid amount determining means that determines whether or not the detected amount of the recording liquid exceeds a threshold. When the amount of the adhering recording liquid is lower than the threshold, the first wiping mechanism is used. When the amount is equal to or greater than the threshold, the cleaning liquid is applied to the ejection face 34n, and then the ejection face 34n is wiped by using the second wiping mechanism 400.
