PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the degradation of an image quality caused by a sudden speed variation occurring in the conveyance speed of a recording paper and the drive speed of an image carrier due to an impulsive vibration generated when the recording paper is entered into or separated from a conveying roller. SOLUTION: An image forming apparatus includes: the image carrier carrying a toner image; a drive means driving the image carrier at a predetermined speed; a control means giving an instruction to the drive means, to allow the driving means to perform a predetermined operation; a transfer means nipping the recording paper by a rotary body at a position opposed to the image carrier, to transfer the toner image on the image carrier to the recording paper; and a storage section holding data required for control. The control means gives an instruction to the drive means to generate a variation having a phase reverse to a phase of a variation (speed variation) given to the predetermined speed of the image carrier by a vibration produced when the recording paper passes through between the image carrier and the transfer means, at the same timing as that of the speed variation, based on the control data held in the storage section.
