<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inspection system in which acquired images and CAD data are linked, to allow diffusivity compensation to improve inspection accuracy and/or to characterize defect types. <P>SOLUTION: A method for determining three-dimensional distances on a two-dimensional pixel image of a part or object includes: acquiring a real two-dimensional pixel image of the object (102); creating a simulated image of the object using the three-dimensional CAD model (104); determining a specified cost function, comparing the simulated image with the real two-dimensional pixel image; repositioning the simulated image in accordance with iterated adjustments of a relative position between the CAD model and the two-dimensional pixel image, to change the simulated image until the specified cost function is less than or equal to a specified value (110); generating a three-dimensional distance scale matrix, by using the simulated image thus repositioned (112); and measuring and displaying the distances among selected pixels on a surface of the real image, by using two-dimensional distances on the pixel image of the object and the three-dimensional distance scale matrix. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT |
