PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a stepless speed change drive capable of comfortable running at the time of climbing. SOLUTION: When an incline of the road surface is estimated from running conditions of an actual vehicle, if the incline of the road surface is more than or equal to the running judgement value, and the actual number of input rotations is less than or equal to the minimum target input number of revolutions established in compliance with the incline of the road surface, the minimum target input number of revolutions is not set as the lower value but ordinary transmission control is conducted. On the other hand, when the incline of the road surface is more than or equal to the vehicle climbing time judgement value and the actual input number of revolutions is more than the minimum target input number of revolutions, the minimum target input number of revolutions is judged as the lower value and transmission control is conducted. Since climbing time control is postponed until the actual input number of revolutions exceeds the minimum target input number of revolutions, an increase in the number of input revolutions which drivers cannot expect can be prevented.
