PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photocatalyst-coated optical fiber hardly breaking and having high reliability for a long time without deteriorating a photocatalytic function, an apparatus and a method for manufacturing the photocatalyst-coated optical fiber, and a method and an apparatus for decomposing a contaminant by using the photocatalyst-coated optical fiber. SOLUTION: The photocatalyst-coated optical fiber comprises an optical fiber 1, an organic resin 2 applied on a part of the outer peripheral surface of the optical fiber 1, and a photocatalyst 3 applied on the other part of the optical fiber 1, in which the organic resin 2 and the photocatalyst 3 are successively provided throughout the longitudinal length of the optical fiber 1, the organic resin 2 is a fluorine-based resin with a lower index of refraction than that of the composing material of the optical fiber 1, and 10-90% of the circumference of the cross section of the optical fiber 1 is coated by the fluorine-based resin.
