<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent inappropriate communication from leading to increased trouble by detecting and identifying an error (abnormal conditions) even when a harness breaks after a chip select signal (identification signal) is logically activated. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A CPU 11 (master control unit) of a serial communication apparatus writes values to registers of a plurality of devices (slave control units) 20-23, and then reads out the values in the registers and matches them against expected values to detect an abnormal conditions in serial communication through harnesses 1-4 to the plurality of devices 20-23 and identify the anomalous serial communication.
