<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for prolonging a life of a lead-acid battery by accurately detecting a degree of stratification of electrolyte and carrying out charge which prevents rapid decrease of a battery capacity. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The charge control method of the lead-acid battery includes a first step for knowing an actual open circuit voltage OCV1 of the lead-acid battery and an ideal open circuit voltage OCV2 calculated from a difference between a charged electricity amount and discharged electricity amount of the lead-acid battery, a second step for knowing the degree of the stratification from a difference between the OCV1 and OCV2, and a third step for changing a charge condition of the lead-acid battery in considering of a collation table of the degree of the stratification known in the second step and charge patterns.
