<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus in which a situation at the back of a vehicle in an overall depth direction can be easily recognized without giving any sense of incompatibility to the crew. Ž<P>SOLUTION: When an obstacle detecting means 9 mounted in a vehicle (A) detects an obstacle within a predetermined distance from the vehicle (A), an image processing section 3 performs overlook conversion processing onto an image captured by a rear view camera 1 and an overlooked image is displayed on a monitor 5. If the obstacle detecting means 9 detects no obstacle within the predetermined distance from the vehicle (A), meanwhile, a rear view image is displayed on the monitor 5.
