PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exposure device that uses a plurality of switching elements and a plurality of light emitting elements, wherein light emission failure in the light emitting elements is detected.

SOLUTION: The light emitting chip C includes: a chip substrate 70 that has such a rectangular shape that the length in a main scanning direction is longer than the length in a sub-scanning direction; and 256 light emitting thyristors L1 to L256 arranged on the surface of the chip substrate 70 in one line in numerical order in the main scanning direction. In the light emitting chip C, the light emitting thyristors L1 to L128 emit light in that numerical order. In addition, the light emitting thyristors L129 to L256 emit light in reverse numerical order. A first light emission detecting sensor LR1 is disposed adjacent to the light emitting thyristor L1. A second light emission detecting sensor LR2 is disposed adjacent to the light emitting thyristor L256. A third light emission detecting thyristor LR3 is disposed at the place where the light emitting thyristors L128 and L129 are adjacent to each other.
