PURPOSE: An ice making device for a refrigerator and a control method thereof are provided to prevent ice from being unnecessarily moved to a dispenser, by keeping the blocked state of an ice storage space while ice is not taken out of the ice storage space. CONSTITUTION: An ice making device for a refrigerator(20) comprises a storage(22), an ice transfer unit(23), a sensor, and a controller. The storage keeps ice and includes an opening for discharging the ice. The ice transfer unit selectively opens/closes the opening and transfers the ice to the outside. The sensor detects the relative position of the ice transfer unit with regards to the storage. In the state that the ice discharge process has been completed, the controller blocks the opening by controlling the ice transfer unit if the opening is opened.
