<p>A method of conditioning exterior air for a spray booth 14 comprises sensing dry bulb temperature (20, fig 2) and relative humidity (22) of the exterior air and selecting a set point of the dry bulb temperature and relative humidity based upon minimizing an amount of energy or minimizing a cost of energy required to condition the exterior air by comparing forms of energy. The exterior air is conditioned and subsequently used to carry away coating mist, dust, and contaminants from a spray area 40. A conditioning apparatus 12 conditioning air to a variable set point comprises heating the air via a preheater (26, fig 3), cooling the air via a cooling coil (28), humidifying the air via a humidifier (30), and dehumidifying the air via a reheater (32). The set point selection may be based upon future predicted weather conditions determined from a mathematical profile of previous weather conditions and weather trends in a localized domain, which is a geographic area surrounding a manufacturing plant including a spray booth. The spray booth may be used for spray painting vehicles, paint other appliances or children's toys or used a coating booth for applying coatings.</p> |
