The method involves determining whether a waterproof cover is provided in an open or a closed condition by a sensor and whether an optical plate is provided in an optical disk drive in the closed condition of the cover. A preset time is measured by a control device when no optical plate is provided. A control signal is sent to a circuit-breaker by the control device to interrupt an electrical connection between a power supply e.g. internal battery, and the drive after the time is reached. The sensor is formed as a micro-switch, an optical detection switch or electro-magnetic switch. An independent claim is also included for a power saving system for an optical disk drive of a robust electronic device.
