The upstream ends of the walls 12 are of rounded form and atmospheric air is drawn into the diffuser by the flow of exhaust gases. A series of pivotally mounted flaps 13 is provided at the diffuser outlet to control the direction of discharge of the air and gas mixture during transition from horizontal to vertical flight.
