A boiler unit 100 is housed in an enclosure and is configured to receive a solid state combined heat and power (CHP) generating device 130. The boiler unit comprises a heating device 110 to produce heat, and a control unit 120 to independently control each of the heating device and the solid state combined heat and power generating device. The boiler unit is operable without the solid state combined heat and power generating device being present. Preferably, the CHP device comprises a solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) stack. The boiler unit may comprise a fuel processing system including a replaceable de-sulphuriser component and a water supply arrangement including a replaceable de-ioniser unit, where each is provided for the CHP device. In a further aspect, a boiler unit kit of parts comprising a heating device, a solid state combined heat and power generating device and a control unit, is also disclosed. |
