The linear drive system has a guide rail (10) and a carriage movable on the bar-shaped guide rail. The carriage overlaps the guide rail in U-shaped manner. The guide rail is carried to both sides of the magnet strips (16,18) of a permanent magnet. The linear motors (30,32) act together on the surfaces of the carriage opposing the permanent magnets such that repulsive forces are generated. The repulsive forces are directed at both sides adjacent to the drive forces perpendicular to the guide rail.
