A speed bump which provides a road surface (4) formed by a bent plate (1) with a transverse edge running transverse to a driving direction (7). The transverse edge rests on one or more supports (2) which are elastically deformable parallel to the driving direction. The plate and the supports have a rigidity such, for instance in that the plate is made of a sufficiently thick metal plate, that elastic deformation of the plate due to weight on the plate is converted into displacement of the transverse edge parallel to the driving direction without the plate bending. In one embodiment, the bump furthermore comprises a discrete damper (6) element arranged between a part of the plate and an underground. This damper element is designed such that increasing speed of compression of the damper element results in the increasing reaction force. |
