A method for producing rows of elements for sliding clasp fasteners, comprises the steps of punching out a plurality of predetermined shaped portions from a thin sheet of plastics material to produce a strip of regular serpentine or zig-zag shape with transverse limbs 5 and longitudinally bending the strip to produce a row of elements. In one form the sheet has a central rib and in the punching step, projections 6, 6a, 6b, Fig. 5, are formed, the projections 6 being formed from the central rib, and forming the heads of the elements. The projections 6a, 6b space the elements but can be omitted. The central projection can project on one side or both sides of its limb and the rib can be on one side or both sides of the sheet material. In another form, Fig. 6, sheet without a rib is used and each limb 5 is cranked, the centre portion forming the head of the element as shown in Fig. 13. The row of elements is sewn to a stringer tape and either straddles the tape or is sewn to one face of the tape. |
