The present invention relates to a catalyst based on a metal and cerium oxide (CeO2) intended particularly for use in fuel elements when producing hydrogen by reaction of water and carbon monoxide, when treating exhaust gases of internal combustion engines and when catalyzing other chemical reactions. The invented catalyst contains a thin layer of cerium oxide (CeOi2) and at least a metal being selected from the group consisting of: gold, platinum palladium, tin, ruthenium, or nickel. The catalyst is then prepared by high frequency sputtering a cerium oxide and a metal, being selected from the group consisting of: gold, platinum palladium, tin, ruthenium and nickel from a target (10) to a substrate wherein the metal is preferably disposed on the target in the form of an object (12). The sputtering process can be also carried out from two targets wherein the first target containing cerium oxide and the other target contains at least one metal being selected from the group consisting of: gold, platinum palladium, tin, ruthenium and nickel. |
