The engine (1) has a crankcase upper part, crankcase lower part (2) and an oil separator (3) separating oil droplets. The oil separator projects from the lower part, and is flange-connected to the lower part. The separator is provided with displacement volumes (9, 9') in lateral areas arranged above an oil level and below a crankshaft. The volumes are partially immersed so as to raise the oil level during inclination of the oil level, where the displacement volumes form an integral component of the oil separator. The oil separator is made of plastic as a plastic injection molding part. The engine comprises a pacifying element formed as a punched pacifying sheet metal or made of plastic.
