PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a deformed cross-section tunnel boring machine which is simple in structure and inexpensively manufacturable, and prolongs a life by enhancing durability, and a method for boring a deformed cross-section tunnel. SOLUTION: A stroke st of a cutter jack 8 is controlled depending on an angleθof the rotation of the cutter head 5 while a cutter head 5 is rotated by one turn, so that an excavated cross section is formed as a deformed cross section except a circular shape. Contact pressure P is generated at a bearing 9 because a side of the cutter jack 8 connected to a movable cutter 7 is pressed against the bearing 9 accompanied by the rotation of the cutter head 5; and the side of the cutter jack 8 which is expanded and contracted accompanied by the movement of the movable cutter 7 is brought into slide-contact with the bearing 9 at a speed V. In this case, a rotational speed N of the cutter head 5 and an expansion/contraction speed V of the cutter jack 8 are controlled depending on the angleθof rotation while the cutter head 5 is rotated by one turn, so that a value which is obtained by multiplying the contact pressure P by the speed V can be constantly set at a predetermined value or below while the cutter head 5 is rotated by one turn.
