PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect a quench in a superconducting coil at an early stage while suppressing the effects of noise generated during charging and discharging of the coil. SOLUTION: The superconducting coil quench detector includes: a quench detection signal generating part which detects a balance voltage in a bridge circuit formed with a superconducting coil and resistors and outputs same as a quench detection signal for detecting a quench in the superconducting coil; a retention time signal generating part which generates a signal indicating a retention time for retaining the energy accumulated in the superconducting coil; an abnormality determining signal extracting part which extracts a signal contained within the retention time out of the quench detection signal as an abnormality determining signal; and a quench detecting part which detects the quench in the superconducting coil based on the abnormality determining signal.
