<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recoil apparatus of a crawler type vehicle which ensures stable stroke and achieves a long life recoil rod by surely preventing foreign matters such as soil and sand from entering the inside of a spring cover. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A shock absorbing mechanism 10 of the recoil apparatus C is provided with: a support 13 linked to the rear end of an idler bracket 5; a spring 12 disposed with its one end held by the support 13; the recoil rod 15 insertedly fitted to a midportion of the spring 12, its distal end being supported to be advanced and retracted relative to the support 13; and a spring cover 16 covering and including the spring 12, its internal surface 16c being disposed to slide along an external surface 13a of the support 13. A shield member 31 is disposed to make a gap generated between the internal surface 16c of the spring cover 16 and a sliding section 20 along which the external surface 13a of the support 13 slides, discontinuous with an internal space M or an external space N of the spring cover 16 including the spring 12.
