The electrostatic filter (1) has an electrostatically charged or grounded separation device (12) with a large surface relative to a volume, where the separation device is arranged in the area of separation chamber (2) for interaction with the particles. The separation device is provided with a filling unit (3) made of electrostatically chargeable plastic components, where the filling unit has a volume in proportion to the large surface for interactions with the particles. An independent claim is included for a method for emission control and heat recovery, particularly for emission control of the exhaust gases from biomass furnaces.
