<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the image forming apparatus which can reduce the down time of printing, without increasing the load of system configuration, in a network environment where a plurality of image forming apparatus are connected. <P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 52 includes a communication section 106 which communicates with other apparatus via a network; an image forming section 78 connected to the communication section 106 via a bus 132; a print designation management section 110 which is connected to the communication section 106 via the bus 132 and capable of transmitting a print request received via the communication section 106, to one specified of the image forming apparatuses connected to the network; and a server setting section 112 that determines which one of the apparatuses connected to the network and having a printer server function is to serve as a printer server in accordance with a predetermined procedure.
