A scanning pulse generation circuit is equipped with: a shift register unit (72) that has a number of registers 2N that is twice the number N of drive voltage waveforms and that shifts the data of those registers; an N-bit latch unit (74) that holds the output of every other register, of the output of the 2N registers of the register unit (72), and that generates N control pulses for the purpose of generating a scanning pulse; and a switch unit (78) that generates a scanning pulse based on the N respective control pulses.
