PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal aligning agent, capable of giving a liquid crystal alignment layer which shows excellent liquid crystal alignment restraining force (pretilt angle developing property) and has improved burn-in property and high reliability, and on which the accumulation of residual DC voltage after long-term application of thermal stress is suppressed. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal aligning agent contains a polymer, having a specific repeating unit typified by a structure represented by formula (1-1) and at least one polymer selected from a polyamic acid obtained, by mamking a tetracarboxylic acid dianhydride react with a diamine and an imidized polymer thereof.
