PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording element substrate which can prevent the degradation of a recorded image or heating resistive element caused by the selective drive of the same heating resistive element being continuously performed and an excessive voltage and current being applied to the heating resistive element when the poor electric connection of a recording device body with a recording head equipped with the recording element substrate generates. SOLUTION: When record data incoming signals to the recording element substrate are all bits High level signals or all bits Low level signals, the block selection signal of a time sharing drive is considered as an empty block selection signal for which the corresponding heating resistive element does not exist.
