PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnesium alloy which has a higher strength than that of a conventional magnesium alloy. SOLUTION: A method for manufacturing the magnesium alloy material includes the steps of: preparing a material to be worked of the magnesium alloy, which contains at least aluminum and zinc as an additive element; subjecting the material to be worked to temperature-lowering multispindle-forging treatment; and rolling the material to be worked which has been subjected to temperature-lowering multispindle-forging treatment, with a rolling reduction of 20% at the maximum.
