<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device having improved viewing angle characteristic. Ž<P>SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal display device, a position of a viewer is detected, and white luminance correction or black luminance correction is performed so that a screen state may be the best as seen from the position of the viewer. In the correction, the entire screen is divided into a plurality of blocks and a state of an image of the block (rate of a low-luminance pixel and a rate of a high-luminance pixel) is verified, to decide whether the black luminance correction is performed, whether the white luminance correction is performed or whether the correction is not performed according to the verification. At first, brightness of the entire screen is determined. When the brightness of the entire screen shows a darker condition than specified brightness, or when it shows a brighter condition than the specified brightness, the black luminance correction and the white luminance correction may be performed, respectively.
