<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which obtains images read before operation stop of the image reading apparatus even if feeding of a document is stopped without pressing a switch for stopping operation of the apparatus when it is desired to urgently stop image-reading or feeding of the document. Ž<P>SOLUTION: By opening an opening/closing mechanism in a feeding part of the image reading apparatus, the feeding of the document can be normally stopped similarly to the case where an operation stop switch is pressed. Furthermore, by notifying an information processing device about the paper-less state, reading can be normally finished without issuing an abnormality message from the information processing device.
