<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve voltage withstanding properties of an FED (field emission display). Ž<P>SOLUTION: A cathode substrate 1 having a cathode area with electron sources 14 formed in matrix and an anode substrate 2 having an anode area formed of a metal back or the like are arranged in opposition with an interposition of a spacer 4. A position of an end part of the spacer 4 is to be arranged further outside than a range d where secondary electrons SE reach by electrons PE emitted from an electron source 14 at an outermost periphery of the cathode area.
