<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminating device and a zoom microscope equipped with the illuminating device for providing excellent illumination without depending on zoom magnification. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The illuminating device provided at the zoom microscope 30 having an objective lens 11 and an afocal zoom system 13 in this order from the sample surface 10a side includes an illuminating optical system for illuminating the sample surface 10a through the afocal zoom system 13 and the objective lens 11. The illuminating device is constituted so that the position of a light source 18 is changeable to substantially coincide with the position of an exit pupil of the illuminating optical system formed on the light source 18 side of the illuminating optical system according to zooming of the afocal zoom system 13.
