The method involves photographically detecting a locally available measurement value of an optical display in a meter, and transmitting the measurement value to a destination point i.e. web server, via an Internet (1.4). The measurement value is evaluated and is converted into computer-usable data sets. A meter-reading photo (1.1.2) is formed with a defined image geometry, such than the photo is evaluated using an image evaluation software. A log-data set is received together with the measurement value in the photo, during forming of the photo.
