<p>Provided is a liquid crystal display device including a liquid crystal layer (300) formed between a TFT array substrate (200) and an opposing substrate (100). On the TFT array substrate (200) is formed a photodiode (17) which generates a current of intensity based on the intensity of the illumination light. The photodiode (17) has a light reception surface on which is formed a light transmission member (15) sandwiched by the TFT array substrate (200) and the opposing substrate (100). Thus, it is possible to realize a simple-structure liquid crystal display device having a highly-sensitive photosensor (photoelectrical element) not affected by the orientation state of the liquid crystal.</p>
