Disclosed are: iron nitride particles comprising Fe16N2; a process for producing iron nitride particles comprising Fe16N2 in a liquid phase; and a complex and a dispersion, each of which can be used as an intermediate for the process. Specifically disclosed are: iron nitride microparticles which comprise Fe16N2 and have an average particle diameter of 100 nm or less; a process for producing iron nitride particles comprising Fe16N2, which comprises (a) preparing a dispersion comprising an organic solvent and an iron complex dispersed in the organic solvent and (b) producing iron nitride particles comprising Fe16N2 from the iron complex; and a complex and a dispersion both of which can be used in the process.
