<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a hydrocarbon gas sensor improved in detection sensitivity for a hydrocarbon gas, which is lowered in sensitivity for a hydrogen gas and heightened in selectivity for the hydrocarbon gas. <P>SOLUTION: The hydrocarbon gas sensor 1, which measures hydrocarbon in a gas to be measured, includes: a solid electrolyte 13 consisting primarily of zirconia; a reference electrode 12 disposed on the solid electrolyte; a detection electrode 11 which is disposed on the solid electrolyte and works as a counter electrode of the reference electrode; a selective reaction layer 14 which is disposed so as to cover the detection electrode; and a heater 19.
