<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cutting method of an optical fiber preform where the flatness of end surfaces after cutting is excellent and cracks are not caused. <P>SOLUTION: The rod optical fiber preform which is constituted of a quartz glass layer added with Ge (germanium), a quartz glass layer added with F (fluorine) and a pure quartz glass layer in order from the center and which is opened after cutting is cut after heating at 950-1,100°C and holding for a fixed period of time. It is favorable that a wound circling around the peripheral surface of the optical fiber preform is made before heating when the optical fiber preform is cut. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2010,JPO&INPIT</p> |
