<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique which can improve an accuracy in image formation. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is comprised of a plurality of head modules 4 arranged in a paper conveyance direction X, a plurality of paper detection sensors 6 arranged respectively corresponding to the head modules 4 for detecting whether or not paper M is present on a detection position near the upstream side of a head 5, an EEPROM 7 which stores a reference value of a distance between the detection position where the paper M is detected by the paper detection sensor 6 and a reference position of the paper M where driving control of the head 5 of the head module 4 corresponding to the paper detection sensor 6 starts, and a printing control part 13c which starts the driving control of the head 5 of the head module 4 on the basis of the fact that a conveyed distance value of the paper M after the paper M is detected at the detection position by the paper detection sensor 6 reaches the reference value made corresponding to the corresponding head module 4.
