<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mass calibration method having a wide application range, capable of calibrating mass accurately and simply, and to provide a standard substance used for the mass calibration method. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A combination of not less than two kinds of porphyrin are used as a standard substance for calibrating mass. In not less than two kinds of porphyrin, one kind or not less than two kinds of porphyrin are complex salts. The mass calibration method of a mass spectrometer includes: a process for preparing not less than two kinds of porphyrin; a process for performing mass spectrometry of not less than two kinds of porphyrin to obtain actually measured value of the ion peak of each of not less than two kinds of porphyrin; a process for calculating a theoretical value of the mass of the ion peak in mass spectrometry of each of not less than two kinds of porphyrin; and a process for creating a mass calibration curve by comparing the actually measured value with the theoretical value.
