<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for preparing II-type crystal of (1R,5R,6S)-p-nitrobenzyl-2-(diphenylphosphoryloxy)-6-[(R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1-methyl-carbapenem-3-carboxylate (MAP). Ž<P>SOLUTION: The method for preparing the II-type crystal of the above compound includes the following process. I-type crystal of (1R,5R,6S)-p-nitrobenzyl-2-(diphenylphosphoryloxy)-6-[(R)-1-hydroxyethyl]-1-methyl-carbapenem-3-carboxylate (MAP) is dissolved in dichloromethane, chloroform or acetone. The resultant solution is dripped with diethyl ether, isopropyl ether, n-hexane, n-heptane or cyclohexane to effect crystallization. Thereby, without separate cooling step in order to obtain the aimed crystal type, the objective high-purity II-type crystal of MAP can be produced in high yield and in large quantities by a simple means.
