<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent an adaption error from increasing in a double-talk state without providing a double-talk detecting circuit. Ž<P>SOLUTION: A tap coefficient setting unit 202 calculates a numerator term of an update coefficient Δw<SB>n</SB>[i] by a delay circuit 301 and a multiplier 302 using an input signal x[n] and an error signal e[n], and calculates a normalization denominator term of the update coefficient Δw<SB>n</SB>[i] by a multiplier 303, a multiplier 304, an adder 305, an averaging circuit 306, and an adder 307. The tap coefficient setting unit 202 calculates the update coefficient Δw<SB>n</SB>[i] by dividing the numerator term by the normalization denominator term through an inverse number arithmetic circuit 308 and a multiplier 309. The tap coefficient setting unit 202 generates a tap coefficient w<SB>n+1</SB>[i] after update by adding the value obtained by multiplying the update coefficient ΔW<SB>n</SB>[i] by a step size 2μ to the tap coefficient w<SB>n</SB>[i] by a multiplier 310, an adder 311, and a delay circuit 312.
