PILOT SIGNAL TRANSMISSION PATTERN FOR A MULTI -USER OFDMA SYSTEM

<p>Transmission patterns for pilot symbols transmitted from a mobile station or base station are provided, wherein the pilot symbols are organized in clusters, each cluster can have a different pattern and comprising pilot symbols located close to the edges of a hop region. In addition, scalar functions can be applied to the pilot symbols for obtaining orthogonality between sets of pilot symbols within the same cluster and/or different clusters.</p>
