PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an olefin polymer maintaining predetermined polymerization activity even if olefin containing carbon dioxide as an impurity is used as a polymerization material. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the olefin polymer, polymerization of olefin is carried out by using the following polymerization catalyst components (a) and (d). The polymerization catalyst component (a) is a transition metal compound. The polymerization catalyst component (d) is an organoaluminum compound prepared by heating an organoaluminum compound represented by general formula iBu<SB>t</SB>R<SP>3</SP><SB>u</SB>Al at temperature of 50-150°C for from one minute to 20 hours. In the general formula, t and u are integers satisfying relationships 1≤t≤3 and t+u=3; iBu is an isobutyl group; and R<SP>3</SP>is a 4-12C hydrocarbon group except an isobutyl group.
